NMDOT announces winners of second annual snow plow naming contest

SANTA FE, N.M. — The New Mexico Department of Transportation announced the winners of its second annual snow plow naming contest.

Musical phenoms “Alice Scooper” and “Taylor Drift” will get to perform on the snowiest days in the Albuquerque metro. On snow days in Santa Fe, Farmington and Taos, you’ll soon have the “Blizzard Wizard” to help “Clear-o-Pathra.”

When it’s nothing but a snow thing in Ruidoso or Roswell, “Scoop Dogg” will be there. You could thank an order of “Chips & Que Snow” for doing the job there too.

If you’re in Gallup or Grants, you’ll want to order up an “En-CHILL-ada” to say “Zia Later, Snow.”

When you say “Snow Bueno” or “Snow Way, Jose!” about getting snow in Silver City, well, you can thank those named plows for clearing out the roads.

Last but not least, when one of those tough snowstorms inevitably closes U.S. Highway 56 near Springer or U.S. Highway 64 between Clayton and Raton, the “Blizzard of Oz” and the “Red Chilly Brrrr-ito” will be the ones to get the roads open again.

Last year, winners included Sleetwood Mac, Billy the Skid, Better Call Salt and Snowzobra. Below is a map visualizing where this year’s winners will be deployed.
