CORRALES, N.M. – More than 100 cats have a safe haven to sleep while they await their forever home. KOB 4 introduces the advocate behind it all in this week’s Pay It 4ward.
“They’re all loved and they know they’re loved, and that’s the main thing,” said Kathy Lipnis who has been donating her time to the rescue for years.
“Carma” stands for Companion Animal Rescue and Medical Assistance. Carma Founder, Barbara Bayer, started the organization more than 20 years ago and she even houses the a portion of the cats at her Corrales home.
“She’s just a non-stop driving force from five in the morning until 10 at night,” said Lipnis.
All for the cats and a few dogs. So it was time to Pay it 4ward to Bayer with $400.
“You are a hero in our eyes because you do so much all the time. It’s all the time for you, we get to go home but it’s all the time for you,” said Lipnis.
“I’m rarely flabbergasted I’m rarely out of words, but this is a shocker,” said Bayer.
Bayer saw the need years ago and filled it.
“It’s about passion and it’s about being taught when I was growing up that animals have souls they’re little angels, and it’s our responsibility to take care of them,” said Bayer. “I’m just happy to do this.”
