Police warn about fake $100 bills

FARMINGTON, N.M. — Police are warning that scammers are stashing fake $100 bills in various places to think you stumbled upon some free cash.

The bills look real at first glance – but they aren’t. They have the words “For Motion Picture Purposes” and “Copy” on the front and back. The back contains the words “Tian Di Yin Hang,” which translates from Chinese to English as, “Bank for circulation in heaven and earth.” The term is used to describe money printed solely for afterlife rituals – not for circulation.

If you find one of these bills, reach out to Farmington Police Department.
