NMSP officer shoots suspect accused of firing gun during call
DEMING, N.M. — A New Mexico State Police officer shot and wounded a suspect who reportedly fired his gun when authorities responded to a call Monday.
According to NMSP, the Luna County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance at 8030 Monte Road in Deming. They said a man fired a gun during that disturbance.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found John Dwillis standing near a truck. At some point while talking to him, Dwillis allegedly fired at least one round and then got inside the truck.
Deputies called NMSP for help and to negotiate with Dwillis. During that time, an NMSP officer fired at least one round, striking Dwillis.
Medics flew him to a Texas hospital for his injuries. No officers or deputies were injured.
