Tire fire near Tower and Coors under investigation
A tire fire at a junkyard near Coors and Tower sent plumes of black smoke high into the sky Sunday.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A fire broke out at an equipment yard near Tower and Central Sunday morning, sending plumes of black smoke into the sky over Albuquerque.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue received calls about the blaze just before 11:30 a.m., after which units were dispatched from both AFR and Bernalillo County Fire Rescue.
Engine 7 was first to arrive and reported a tire fire with multiple vehicles and other pieces of equipment threatened. Engine 7 and Engine 17 then both put water on the fire, which was eventually brought under control.
No structures were damaged in the fire but several pieces of equipment were damaged. There were no reported injuries.
Fire investigators responded to the scene but for the time being the cause of the blaze is undetermined.
