Tula’s Kitchen opens second location

The restaurant is owned by the parent company of Dion's Pizza and the location is in a prominent spot in Albuquerque.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Tula’s Kitchen, the sister restaurant of Dion’s, recently opened its second location in Albuquerque.

The new location is at I-25 and Jefferson, in what used to be Nick and Jimmy’s. The location is offering more food options and even a spot for party reservations.

“We’ve been really excited by how well the first location has been received in Tula’s. It’s pretty far up in the northeast heights, so we realize that it’s a lot of distance for some people to travel. We were looking for something centrally located, so we can draw from the entire city,” said Mark Herman, the CEO of Tula’s Kitchen.

Herman said the building fit their goals, which haven’t been easy to achieve in current conditions.

“It is a tough time. Costs are up all the way around. It’s tough to run a business and we’ve always believed at Dion’s, through those tougher times, you stick to the things that work,” he said.

Herman said consistency is key but people like to try new things, which they brought to the new location.

“One is that we have a little more room in the bar area, so we’re excited about that. With that, we’ll be introducing, in the next few weeks, a new bar bites menu. We’ll be doing some happy hour specials,” he said.

Herman also shed light on those new menu items.

“Burger sliders, some meatballs and, probably the most thing that I’m excited about, is an ode to our founders. The founders of Dion’s are both from Detroit so we’re going to be introducing some small Detroit deep dish pizzas that will run out of the bar area here,” he said.

While they’re not in a rush to open a third Tula’s location, Herman said it is in the cards. He said they’re eyeing a location on the West Side in the next couple of years.
